An Introduction

My name is Louise Parkinson and I am venturing into private practice under the auspices of Huntsville Community Counselling.

I came into counselling after going through a series of midlife challenges all at once, forcing me to reevaluate everything I thought was solid.  I found great peace through mindfulness and therapy.  I decided to make it my life’s work to help others going through difficult life situations.

I hold a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology and I am going through the final stages of being registered with the new College of Psychotherapists.

I specialize in helping people overcome challenging situations, unhelpful thinking styles and various life struggles through mindfulness and CBT, a method we call mindfulness based cognitive therapy.  I also use other methods including narrative therapy, emotionally focussed therapy, attachment therapy, brief solution focussed therapy, family therapy and others as required.

I have a relaxed and open style that is accepting and non-judgmental. I base my life on loving kindness and compassion.  However, I mix that with straight forward attitudes focussed on finding solutions in a collaborate way.  I will challenge you to own your stuff and to stick to plans of action.

I strongly believe that everyone who feels they need counselling is able to access it, so I offer a sliding scale fee for low income earners.  If you are covered by a health plan, you are probably covered for my services.  Please call for more information.

This blog will help me maintain connection to the community and to provide the community with information regarding various aspects of self improvement and growth. It is not meant to replace individual or family therapy, but only to augment the work that you are doing to improve your mood and your life through gaining control of your thoughts.

I would love your feedback!  Feel free to comment or to ask any questions either through the blog or the contact form on the website and I will answer as many questions as I can through my blog post.
