Why Go to a Therapist?

No-one likes to thinks they NEED therapy.  But really everyone could benefit from an occasional visit with a skilled therapist.

Therapy has been the butt of many a joke for decades now, ever since Freud starting analyzing our sexuality and Pavlov kept food from his dog.  The idea that if you need therapy you must be crazy has long been perpetuated in our culture. But the fact is that therapy has come a long way and most people could benefit from the skills and knowledge of modern psychotherapists. It is not weakness to get help for difficulties in your life, it is strength. It is about recognizing that  we ALL suffer at some time.  You are not crazy, or delusional or weird or psychotic – you are human.  And being a human can be hard. We get therapy because we value our life so much that we want to make the most of the limited time we have on this planet.

When to access counselling

Counselling is very personal and is usually sought during trying times. However, it can be useful at any time in your life.  While helping you through difficult times is important, it is equally as important for you to not just survive, but to thrive.  That’s why accessing counselling when you are not going through a crisis is a great time to examine your life and figure out why you are not getting the levels of contentment and happiness that you had hoped for.
